This annual Pink Round Event raises funds for various charities such as breast cancer, women in sport, victims of floods, and more.

The day was a fantastic success raising over $20,000 to support charities close the Burleigh Juniors Rugby League’s heart.

“We are so pleased to not only sponsor and support kids sport but also raise funds for charity. Business Fuel and our good friends at Diamond Ace Roofing were proud sponsors of our 12 boys team for the event who had a big win on Saturday! A big congratulations to Jason Brown and the Burleigh Bears Junior Rugby League. A big thank you to the tireless and dedicated volunteers, the junior referees and officials, everyone who helped out in the canteens and the parents”

Wade Doblo – Managing Director

The Burleigh Bears JRLFC facebook page posted details of the day and included a great summery of the charity:

PINK ROUND WRAP UP

…Firstly the club would like to thank their sponsors that are around each and every day which helps make the club what it is, along with our special Pink Round Sponsors in helping get so many teams in to jerseys this year. This year saw 40 teams wearing the pink jerseys and all teams in their Pink Socks. A huge thanks goes out to the committee, volunteers, sports trainers, league safes, managers, coaches, canteen staff – absolutely anyone that spent some time at the club helping to make the weekend what it was.

History of Burleigh JRLFC Pink Weekend

Debra Bulmer started the Pink Weekend as a way of raising funds for the Jane McGrath Foundation charity. It evolved from there to assisting families in the club who were suffering from various forms of cancer. The funds went to pay bills, treatments or for times of joy for the families. It was our way of giving back to the community that supported the club and assisting those in need. The club also supported the families with the use of the club house for functions and memorials.

It is a huge event that takes a momentous effort by all involved but the joy in helping this families during a difficult time is well worth it. Hopefully it is one of the traditions that the club can keep going, to help those in need within the club, and that the members of the club know that they can receive some assistance when fighting this insidious disease whatever form it takes.

We have spread the purpose of what the funds stand for and have now extended past solely Cancer but through to other crisis, illnesses and sudden losses that are experienced within our club and it’s families wherever this reach may be needed.

We want to help our Bears Community in their time of need. Now the big news – through all areas of fundraising for this PINK ROUND – the club has raised a staggering amount of $31,060 which will be in our PINK ROUND account and can be used as needed.
