Wave – Business On A Budget

If you’re just starting out and don’t want to splash out on a full accounting suite, then Wave might be your answer to cost-effective accounts management. In fact, most of the functions are completely free. Wave enables you to create and send an unlimited number of professional-looking invoices, complete with your own branding, and track their payment. It also has a receipt scanning and expense tracking function and accounting facilities. For a small pay-as-you-go fee, it can also accept credit card payments.

Expensify

Tracking expenses can be fiddly, and small purchases on the go can often slip through the cracks. Expensify has a smartphone app that enables users to scan in receipts using their phone’s camera and upload them for approval, rebilling and reimbursement. The free version has some limitations, but paid accounts with more advanced features start from just $5 USD per month and integrate with other popular accounting programmes like QuickBooks and Xero. Toggl

If you need to log billable hours, then you can do it with Toggl for free if you have fewer than six users.
